Welcome to the NWT Massage Therapists Association

Picture

The fact that you are here indicates that you have an interest in your health and well-being, and believe massage therapy can play a vital role in restoring and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This site offers information about our association for both our current and future members, and for the general public, as well as useful links and contact information for finding professionally-trained therapists in the NWT.

The NWTMTA is a professional, non-profit association dedicated to fostering and promoting high standards in this branch of health care. Massage is a very personal, hands-on mode of treatment, and as such, it requires the utmost in confidence and comfort between practitioner and client. Through our continuing efforts, we endeavour to present the public with effective, quality care, while encouraging our members to attain the highest levels of professional standards possible. As a member-run association, we continue to advance and advocate for the legislation and regulation of massage therapy in the north. Though there are no current requirements at the government level, our members carry liability insurance, have all received at least two years of training at an accredited institution, have passed a competency exam, and are required to obtain continuing education credits. Choosing one of our members for your needs ensures you are in good hands.

For new therapists considering membership, current members and the general public, This web-site will provide you with the information you require about the NWTMTA, its history, goals and future direction. Membership does have benefits, which will become evident through familiarity. Having a strong, member-driven voice representing our goals and concerns to governments, insurers and other health care practitioners ensures we will be heard, affecting positives changes in our profession, and the lives of our clients.

Thank you for your interest and time,

Marianne Wasylycia, RMT
President, NWTMTA
