Massage Therapy

In early history, massage was often considered an art form rather than a medical practice. In recent times, science has taken massage to a new level and redefined it as an evidence-based practice now referred to as massage therapy.

The practice of therapeutic massage is the assessment and planned treatment of soft tissues and joints of the body. Massage provides relief from and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain. Therapists apply soft tissue manipulation and joint mobilization techniques to assist the body's efforts to heal and relieve pain. Many therapists today work collaboratively with other health-care practitioners and are also involved in education and research.

Within their scope of practice, massage therapists are able to assess and safely treat clients presenting a variety of conditions. Some of the conditions commonly treated by massage therapists include:
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches
  • TMJ Dysfunction
  • Whiplash
  • Chronic Pain
  • Low-back Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sports Injuries
  • Strains and Sprains
  • Pregnancy
  • Stress-related Disorders
